River fishing in Brittany is very good and what's more a lot cheaper than in the UK. Licenses are priced
at around 80 Euros/year in the whole of Brittany; 65 Euros/year for one county; 28 Euros for a two week
"holiday" license and about 10 Euros for a day license. These licenses cover you to fish for "white fish"
( Bream, Rudd, Chub, Carp etc.) and game fish ( Pike, Sander or Pike-Perch, Perch, Trout).
Salmon fishing needs an additional stamp for around 15 Euros. Private waters might need a private
license, like the lake at Reguiny in Morbihan, well known for its specimen Carp. You are allowed to
fish with up to four rods from half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset. Certain
stretches of rivers and some lakes allow night fishing for Carp.
River are broken up into two categories :-
* Class 2 rivers - these are the main rivers like the Rance, Blavet and the Nantes to
Brest Canal and can be fished all year round for "white" fish and May to January for game fish.
* Class 1 rivers - are basically all the small rivers and streams which are tributaries to the main ones and can be
fished from 09 March until September, usually for Trout and Perch, although specimen Pike are caught in some.
